If you’re ever feeling unproductive just remember that the logo for the 2012 Olympics cost $600,000 and took two years to finish.

NOTE: i’ve just realised my evaluation and exhibition poster posts were put on the wrong tumblr. Sorry!
The year long PPP module has taught me to start documenting the work I do outside of college, and through the PPP blog I have this work in one place. This organisation of documentation is something I will now continue to do with my personal work as I believe it is good practice.
The work I have created for PPP has allowed me to further my knowledge in areas I have not primarily focused on in modules - such as graphic design, with the end of year exhibition poster. I found the designing and producing process of the poster to be difficult, as not only was the poster representing myself or the 30-odd other people in my year, but the entire course. Me and Tom found it challenging to pinpoint the best way to show the course when it covers so many practices, but eventually came to an agreement with Graham on a design. The whole process taught me the importance of initial development, and when working on similar projects in future I will be sure to spend a lot more time in the ‘ideas’ stage rather than trying to perfect one design straight away.
The other work I have done has been quite eclectic. The UV poster ideas were just to get better at illustation and screen printing, but the work I have done with Infinite Swans, Girl Guts and the 'Instagram’ poster has been based around the idea of free or cheap art. I really like the idea of creating art which can be pinned to a wall and taken off by someone who likes it, right clicked and saved when online, or picked up for cheap at a zine fair, and this is something I will continue to work to and expand over summer.
I have sometimes found it difficult to find time for PPP work amidst more hectic modules, especially when working for several modules at once, but I will work towards managing my time better so that I can hopefully have more to show on my PPP blog next year.
after graham didn’t like our initial ideas, we decided to go back to development and throwing ideas around. graham told us to make the poster more ‘fun’ so we played around with the idea of fun. we came up with 20 ideas/puns/things we could use for the poster and then narrowed them down. it was an incredibly painful and drawn out process, but an important lesson on development.

after we all agreed on an idea, me and tom began developing the layout. we also spent about 6 hours trying to get a decent enough photo/scan of a loveheart, with shadow, and editing the lettering from it. it was quite ridiculous but we got there in the end.
we had issues with hierarchy at first, and were stumped with what colour to make the exhibition opening line, but after playing around with it a bit more and asking other people’s opinions we decided on a candy pink/red similar to the love heart.

When we use to spend
half-waking video days
lying in this bed.
Ah good, the sea!
Flowing like rivers
cascading down lonely banks
we became complete
The love aquatic
I spent my whole life
diving for sunken treasure
then I got the bends

We’re closed.
Oh, these guys, again.
They always stay til’ closing
broken lane it is.
i sort of decided it would be nice to make some blacklight/uv posters for a bit.
here’s some inspiration.

infinite swans is a zine i’m currently making with my friend ollie.
it originally started because we both like to write haiku’s, and both like to go bowling, and so we decided to make a zine about bowling haikus. since then we’ve written other things (which aren’t about bowling) so it’s expanded to cover more subjects.
i’ve been working on the design of the zine. the coloured image above was just me playing about with ideas for the cover.
hopefully the zine will be done by july.
slightly too graphic designery for me, but still an engaging way to get a point across.
